So you’re sitting down to write a blog post for your website. Maybe it’s a real wedding feature, maybe it’s an advice piece or something educational. You’ve got the idea but you actually want engaged couples to be able to find your blog through search engine results.
This is where you need to be adding keywords to your blog so it shows up in google search. The good news is that you don’t need to pay for expensive tools to be able to find keywords your audience is typing into Google. You can find strong keywords for free below, and I’ll walk you through my favourite keyword search tools.

Step 1: Pick your wedding blog topic
Start with the core idea for your blog, this will help you decide what search term will best resonate with the advice or inspiration you are sharing with your audience.
Are you sharing top tips and advice about planning an outdoor tipi wedding? Are you sharing a real wedding story or a How To guide?
Picking one clear topic for your blog will give you direction when writing but also shape where and how you can use your key word throughout your blog.
Step 2: Use Google autofill

You want to know what real engaged couples are typing into search engines like Google so you know what their search intent is.
Go to Google and start typing your topic in the search bar but don’t hit enter. Watch as Google will try to autofill your query or question – this shows you what has been searched for in the past. Top Tip – use a private internet browser or incognito mode so you don’t just see what you have typed into Google before!
Here’s a quick example of what it could look like:
You type in: “Cotswold Wedding P” you might see:
- Cotswold wedding photographer
- Cotswold wedding packages
- Cotswold wedding photography
- Cotswold wedding planner
For an educational blog you could search for “How to plan a wedding” and be inspired fr your blog topic by Google’s autofill answers:
- How to plan a wedding uk
- How to plan a wedding abroad
- How to plan a wedding on a budget
- How to plan a wedding in 6 months
- How to plan a wedding in Italy
These suggestions come straight from real searches and can give you ideas for blog topics if you haven’t already chosen one yet, and will give your key words or questions you can answer in your blog.
Step 3: Check Google trends
Head to Google Trends. Type in your keyword idea and see how popular it is. You can compare different keyword options and check seasonality too which is really helpful if you want to create content that is searchable throughout the year.
For example, “summer wedding colour schemes” might have a lot of searches in April and May compared to ‘how to plan a winter wedding’ in November and december.
There is also a tab called ‘Trending now’ where you can search for the latest news topics or worldwide trends that you could write about using these keywords. For example if ‘Glastonbury’ is trending the month before this festival happens – if you’ve planned a festival themed wedding, could you write a blog about “how to get married at Glastonbury”.

Go to Ubersuggest and enter the keyword you think you want to use for your blog after looking through Google trends. This might be ‘Wedding Florist’ for example and some keywords that are shown to you by Ubersuggest is:
- How much does a florist cost for a wedding (you can write an educational piece around budgeting for your wedding flowers)
- What wedding flowers do I need? (you could share inspiration for types and placements of flowers at a wedding)
On the free version it will show you all the details for about 40 key words – if you want more details you’ll have to join the paid subscription. Take a look at:
- Search volume (how many people search for it per month)
- Related keyword ideas
- SEO difficulty score (lower = easier to rank for)
This gives you a realistic view of whether the keyword is worth using in your blog.
If your website is connected to Google Search Console, this is a goldmine of information you can use to your advantage!
Go to Performance > Search Results and look at:
- Search queries that brought people to your site
- What people clicked on inside your website
- What search terms you ranked for (even if no one clicked through to your website)
You might find a phrase like “Cotswolds luxury wedding venue ideas” and your page ranked for this topic but they didn’t choose to click through to your website. So make it more compelling for your audience to want to read what you have to say and write a blog about this topic using this key phrase.
Once you’ve found a good keyword, you need to be using it a few times throughout your blog for search engines to be able to categorise your blog and know what you are talking about.
Here’s where you need to add your keyword:
- In the blog title
- In the URL (slug)
- In your first paragraph
- In at least one subheading
- A few times naturally throughout the blog
- In your meta description
Don’t overdo it so you are keyword stuffing or sounding like a robot by keeping using this key phrase. Make it sound natural and easy to read for your audience.
Being strategic by adding in keywords to your blog makes it easier for the right people to actually find your helpful, inspiring, or educational content.
You’ve got the experience, now let’s make sure people searching for exactly what you do can actually find you. If blogging on your website is a task you would prefer to outsource to a wedding industry professional, I’d love to chat more with you about writing blog content for your website.
