Running a wedding business can be extremely rewarding, but you can also feel like you are wearing all the hats and spinning all the plates! As a solo wedding business owner, it’s essential to make time in your busy schedule to look after your own well-being and practice self-care to avoid burnout (yes this happens a lot!).
So I wanted to share with you some easy – and not too time consuming – ideas for self care that you can add into your daily or weekly routine to help you feel more relaxed in your business as well as looking after yourself mentally and physically.

1 – Do something active each day
This could be a morning yoga routine, walking the dog or simply stretching before you sit down at your office. Get the blood flowing, get moving and put on some good music to listen to while you do it.
2 – Create a routine
It doesn’t have to be anything extreme – but having a routine you can follow will help you feel more in-control of your day and achieve the self-care you want. This could be a set time to finish at work every day, or a set meal time or bedtime.
3 – Get enough sleep
This can easily be the number one reason you are feeling burnt out! You don’t give your body enough time to recharge overnight ready for the next day.
4 – Get enough nutrition
I know it’s easy to go for the take -aways, frozen pizzas and anything that is quick to cook at meal times – but these generally don’t have very much nutrients and vegetables in them. You want to be fueling your body with healthy vitamins so you can perform at your best and work efficiently.
5 – Think about your mindset
If you start your day on a bad tone, then chances are your mood and productivity won’t improve throughout the day. Try and appreciate all the small things in your life that bring a smile to your face and focus on the positives instead of the negatives if you want to improve your mental wellbeing whilst at work.
6 – Practice Mindfulness
If you struggle with stress or anxiety, then maybe you should take 10 minutes out of your day for meditation or breathing exercises. Try following along to a youtube video or a meditation coach and see how your mood and stress can reduce within a short space of time through practicing mindfulness techniques.
7 – Learn to say ‘no’
This can be a hard lesson to learn, and it took me a while to do this with my business! But once you put yourself first and thoroughly think about the proposition a client is asking you to do, you are absolutely in your right to say ‘no’. Be strong and stand up for yourself and your mental wellbeing. If a task is too much or a client is asking for too many things, then you can politely decline!
8 – Take breaks
Whether this is an hour lunch break, a stretch and a walk around mid-afternoon or a holiday break. You can’t work at 100% efficiently constantly without allowing yourself breaks.
9 – Delegate Tasks
If your wedding business is at capacity or you physically don’t have time to work with all your couples, then think about delegating work to a team member or virtual assistant. Lighten your workload and see the difference it makes!
10 – Treat yourself
Yes, you are allowed to do this! If you get a bad back from being a florist, or your hands hurt after a long day of illustrating wedding invitations – plan to have a massage or visit the chiropractor to help with this. After All these are your tools so you need to look after them!
I hope some of these self care options have resonated and inspired you. As a wedding business owner, self-care should be a part of your daily routine so you can continue being the amazing, dedicated and passionate creative that you are. This is how you can plan for long-term success in your wedding business without burn-out.
