Avoid these Pinterest Marketing Mistakes if you want to grow your account and convert your audience into paying clients!
With over 450 million monthly users, Pinterest is the place for image searches and building moodboards for big life moments. As a wedding business, it’s the perfect platform to get examples of your work in front of potential clients. It’s easy to post on Pinterest, but without a strategy, you won’t be making the most of your Pinterest potential. Here are the most common mistakes I see wedding businesses make on Pinterest and how to avoid them.
1. Not Using Niche Boards
When your Pinterest boards are too general, they aren’t inspiring or educating your potential clients. If you are a florist and you have just one Pinterest board called “Wedding Flowers”, then that’s too broad. Instead, a board called “Pink and Red Wedding Flowers” or “Warm Bohemian Wedding Bouquets” will help clients answer their niche searches. Break your boards down by keywords, colours, themes and styles. Boards that are dedicated to specific topics tend to perform better.
2. Not posting Pins consistently
When it comes to social media you’ll have heard all about posting consistently. Pinterest is no different. You don’t need to be posting every day, especially if you are a newer wedding business, so focus on what’s achievable. One pin per week can even be enough to keep fresh eyes on your Pinterest page.
3. Not designing Pins that are on-brand
As a business, having a recognisable brand helps build trust between you and your audience. Your branding on Pinterest is no different. Your pins should be using your brand colours, logo and font where possible. This will keep a consistent aesthetic on your Pinterest and will help lead potential clients back to you when they find your work re-pinned to someone else’s board.
4. Not adding relevant links to each Pin
Posting a great pin but not adding your website or instagram handle is like writing a great paper and handing it in to a teacher without your name being on it. Take credit for your work. If a potential client sees your post, but doesn’t know where or how to get in touch, you might miss out on that business.
5. Using un-readable fonts on your Pins
We all love an aesthetic font, but sometimes they aren’t the most legible. Keep your fonts stylish, but easy to read. If a potential client has to work at trying to figure out what your post says, they are more likely to scroll right past it. Your font needs to be easy to read even when it’s small on someone’s phone screen.
6. Not using the optimum sizing for your Pins
When creating and uploading your pins to Pinterest, make sure that you check the size guidelines. This will affect the quality of the image and how it performs on the platform.
7. Only making 1 Pin for each Blog
When it comes to sharing your latest blog post on Pinterest, making one pin and hoping for the best, won’t be enough. You should aim to make at least three to four unique pins for your blog post. Having more pins means generating a higher chance of getting more eyes on that pin. You should be thinking about the different questions that blog helps with so that each pin can attract a different kind of potential client.
For example, if you’ve written a blog about 5 Ways to Use Flowers in Your Wedding Styling, each pin could be related to a different point you make in the blog.
8. Not adding Keywords
Keywords are an important part of your SEO. For each of your pins you should identify the best keyword to include in your post. Your keywords will help connect you with your ideal clients. If you aren’t sure what keywords you should be including, make sure to do some research.
Pinterest has so many easy and efficient ways to include keywords in your posts. You should be making the most of your pin and board titles. Use full sentences in your descriptions adding in keywords to explain how your pin, or the link attached to it can answer your potential client’s questions.
9. Not optimizing your Pinterest Bio
As mentioned, Pinterest gives you loads of opportunities to add keywords to your posts and your bio is no different. You need to make the most of your Pinterest bio. Make sure to use keywords in your bio’s description. You should be including what it is you do and the area you work in. Don’t forget to add your website so that all the traffic generated to your page knows where to follow on for more helpful services. Your bio should clearly explain how you help your clients.
